Eurail.com now selling to home market

logo InterRailUtrecht, the Netherlands, 30th March 2007 InterRail is now available online for all European residents. The official InterRail website, www.interrailnet.com is launching online sales from 2nd April. The launch date matches the date of introduction of a redesigned InterRail product offer.

The InterRail concept was created back in the 1970s with the aim of making it easy for people to experience the freedom of travelling around Europe by train. InterRail is a co-operation between European railways. The railways have decided to centralise the management under the Eurail Group G.I.E. based in Utrecht, the Netherlands. Eurail.Com B.V., Eurail Group’s daughter company, is responsible for setting up and managing the e-commerce for InterRail and Eurail. Eurail is a product similar to InterRail for non-European residents.

“We launched the Eurail.Com website in 2004 for the sale of European rail passes to the overseas market and it has been a success reaching 18 million euro in sales in 2006. We are really excited to now be able to launch this new website for our home market”, explains Paulien Pierik, Eurail.Com’s Managing Director.

“I travelled twice by InterRail myself in the 1990s and it was the most fun and exciting travel experience I have had so far. The flexibility and freedom to make up your itinerary as you go, the chance to meet other youth travellers from all over Europe. Visiting the main Euopean capitals such as Berlin, Vienna, Paris and Rome but also staying in small villages in Hungary and Greece”.

Customers will now be able to buy direct from the user-friendly, online shop where passes will be shipped directly European wide to customers within 5 working days. Furthermore InterRailNet.Com remains the official source for information concerning InterRail products.

Also from April 2007, the InterRail product offer is being completely revised to make it more flexible for customers. InterRail is abolishing the current zone structure, replacing it with the InterRail Global Pass which is valid on the trains of all 30 participating countries. For those wishing to explore only a small part of Europe, InterRail is offering the One Country Pass, replacing the former EuroDomino Pass range, valid in any one of the countries participating in the InterRail scheme (with the exception of Montenegro). There are several different validities available to suit all customers.

* The railway companies of the following countries participate in the InterRail offer: Austria, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Luxembourg, Montenegro, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Ireland, Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden and Turkey.
