Poland: Railway Information

The Polish State Railway Company is called Polskie Koleje Panstwowe or PKP. The national InterCity passenger network comprises 20 major towns with regular interval services on several routes.

Network
InterCity trains run at speeds up to 100 mph (160 km/h).
The services offered by PKP include:
High-standard international day trains to Amsterdam, Berlin, Hamburg, Prague and Vienna. High-standard international night trains to Berlin, Budapest and Prague.

All international trains have air-conditioned coaches. National Hotel trains running from Gdynia to Zakopane, from Kraków to Kolobrzeg and from Warsaw to Szczecin/Swinoujscie. These trains only have sleeping cars and couchettes and do not stop at intermediate stations.

Not only the international services are of a high standard, the domestic trains also offer good quality transportation in Poland.

Surcharges and/or reservation costs are required for these domestic day trains:

  • TLK
    1st and 2nd class: € 0,80 (approx. USD 1,20 / AUD 1,40)
    Reservation compulsory. Free reservation if made locally.
  • IC/EC (domestic journeys)
    1st and 2nd class:  € 4,50 (approx. USD 6,70 / AUD 7,90) to € 6 (approx. USD 8,90 / AUD 10,50)

  • EX
    1st and 2nd class: € 2,50 (approx. USD 3,70 / AUD 4,40)
    Reservation compulsory. Free reservation if made locally.

Special trains

You can travel by train through Europe on a large variety of special trains. Examples are high-speed trains, scenic trains or night trains.
