The Greek rail system runs almost al around the Peloponnese, so that you always have a view of the sea on one side and sprawling plains or rugged mountains on the other. There are three types of trains, the InterCity (IC) connecting urban centers and the slower InterRegio (IR) and Regional (R) trains. The new InterCity Express (ICE) between Athens and Thessaloniki is very fast and comfortable.
