Railjet

Railjet is the name of a new high-speed train run by ÖBB between Austria, Germany and Hungary. State-of-the-art equipment, maximum comfort, contemporary design and an exclusive service offer are the keywords of railjet.

There are direct railjet connections between:

  • Vienna (Austria) - Budapest (Hungary)
  • Munich (Germany) - Vienna (Austria) - Budapest (Hungary)

Routes

From Budapest (station: Budapest-Keleti) to Vienna (station: Wien-Westbahnhof)  it takes no more than 3 hours by railjet. On its way from Budapest to Vienna the train also halts in Budapest-Kelenföld, Györ, Hegyeshalom and Vienna-Meidling.

From Munich (station: München Hauptbahnhof) to Budapest (station: Budapest-Keleti) it takes about 6,5 hours. On its way from Munich to Budapest the train also halts in Salzburg, Linz, St. Pölten, Wien-Westbahnhof, Vienna Meidling, Hegyeshalom, Györ and Budapest-Kelenföld.

Classes

As a railjet passenger you have the possibility to choose between three classes:

Economy Class
Expect ergonomic seats with comfortable legroom and spacious luggage racks. Laptop tables and power outlets are provided.

First Class
Travel in comfortable leather seats in spacious compartments. A first class ticket includes a welcome drink, a cold towel and n extensive range of newspapers and magazines.

Premium Class
Relax in a comfortable chair which can be adjusted according to your needs. Your ticket includes a large selection of snacks, warm and cold beverages, newspapers and magazines and a hot towel.

Eurail Pass Holders

Eurail Pass holders are entitled to travel by railjet (if your Pass is valid in the involved countries). A second class Eurail Pass is valid in Economy class, a 1st class Pass is valid in First Class. Reservation of a seat is not required, but is possible at an additional fee of 3 euro. 1st class Pass holders can travel in Premium Class for an additional fee of 25 euro, including a reserved seat. Reservations can be made in advance at bigger stations, or in the train if there are seats left.

Service

In the railjet Bistro you can enjoy a culinary highlight or just a coffee at the bar. You can also get yourself something to eat and drink to take back to your seat.
Timetable information is displayed on 80 monitors throughout the train and digital maps show you the actual route of your train.
The railjet offers special equipment and various services to passengers with limited mobility.
