Eurail benefits in Sweden

If your Eurail pass is valid in Sweden, you can get great deals, cheap ferry crossings to Germany, Finland and Denmark, or free bus travel.

You can obtain benefits locally by showing your Eurail pass, or you can contact the specific benefit company in advance. The discount benefits only apply during the validity of your pass. Free passage on trains, buses or ferries is only valid on travel days.

Travel to Finland, Estonia or Latvia with Tallink Silja Lines ferries

Eurail pass holders pay special fares on Tallink Silja Lines ferries that operate on the routes:


  • Stockholm – Riga (Latvia)

  • Stockholm – Mariehamn – Turku (Finland)

  • Stockholm – Mariehamn – Helsinki (Finland)

  • Stockholm – Tallinn (Estonia)


In high season you receive a 20% discount. In low season a 40% discount.


Please keep in mind that the above routes are night crossings and that you'll have to book a cabin.

Ferries with destination Riga depart from Stockholm Frihamnen. Buses can take you from Stockholm Central station to the terminal. The buses depart from the City Terminal. Visit the Tallink Silja lines website for other options.

Let Viking Line ferries take you to Finland

Get a 50% discount on deck prices on the route:

Travel to Germany with Finnlines ferries

Eurail pass holders get a 50% discount on standard fares on the ferry route:


  • Malmö – Travemünde (Germany)

Booking information

Reservations can only be made on the Finnlines website (booking code: RAIL) or by calling +49 45 028 0543 or +46 771 340 940. You need to show your Eurail pass at check-in. It's not possible to purchase a discounted ticket at the counter.


Please note that port charges and meals are not included in the discount offer.


Take bus 35 from Malmö City Centre. Get off at the bus stop Aspögatan and switch to bus 34 (destination North harbour). From the bus stop Hemsögatan it's  an approx. 1 kilometer walk to Lappögatan. A taxi from Malmö Central Station to Lappögatan costs approximately SEK 150.

Destination Gotland

Eurail pass holders pay special fares on ferry crossings from mainland Sweden to the island of Gotland on the routes:

  • Nynäshamn – Visby (Gotland Island)

  • Oskarshamn – Visby (Gotland Island)

Discounts are only available in person, and depend upon the specific times and days you travel. Present your Eurail pass at the dock when you make your reservations.

Nynäshamn can be reached by train from Stockholm in 1 hour. The ferry terminal is in walking distance from the train station. Oskarshamn can be reached by transfer bus. Take the bus to cross the border

Eurail pass holders can travel for free on the following routes that aren't covered by rail:


  • Haparanda – Tornio (Finland) – Kemi (Finland) (Net-matkat)

  • Haparanda – Luleå (Länstrafiken Norrbotten)

Just show your Eurail pass to the driver when you board.

Travel to Denmark and Norway

A pass valid in Sweden covers:

  • direct SJ trains to and from Copenhagen and Copenhagen Airport.

  • direct border crossing trains from Göteborg and Stockholm to Oslo.

SJ Lounges

Holders of a 1st class Eurail pass have free access to the SJ lounges in Stockholm and Göteborg.

Free buses in the summer

Inlandsbanen offers free bus rides for Eurail pass holders on the following routes:


  • Mora - Ostersund - Gällivare (June 2 - August 24)

  • Kristinehamn - Mora (June 29 - August 9)

Travel from Sweden to Norway with Fjord Line ferries

Eurail pass holders pay a special fare on ferry crossings between:


  • Strömstad - Sandefjord


During low season  you'll receive a 20% discount. During high season (June 17 – August 14) you'll get a 10% discount.


On the route Hirtshals - Langesund there is a 20% discount all year round.

Visit the Swedish Railway Museum

Eurail pass holders receive a 50% discount on the railway museums in Gävle and Ängelholm.
