- There is a direct train connection from Istanbul to Tatvan, which takes almost 42 hours. Passenger trains operate from each terminus to the ferry ports. The ferry from Tatvan to Van takes about 4 hours. The train continues from Van.
- In Van you can take the Trans-Asia Express train to Tehran (capital of Iran). There is also an international train in the other direction to Damascus (capital of Syria). Your Eurail pass is not valid in Iran or Syria.
