Frequently asked questions

  • What if I cross a country that isn't included in my pass?

If you cross a country that isn't included in your pass, you will have to pay an additional fee for that part of the route.

For instance, you can have a Eurail Select Pass that's valid in Italy and Spain, but not in France. In order to travel from Italy to Spain by train, you will have to go through France. In that case, you pay an additional fee from the Italian border to the Spanish border.

  • Are reservations included in my Pass?

No, reservations are not included in your Eurail Pass. Train reservations are required on most high-speed and all night trains. It's often possible to avoid reservations by taking regional trains instead.

Read our reservation guide for more information or book your reservations with us.

  • Do I still need separate tickets with a Eurail Pass?

Your Eurail Pass will serve as your ticket on most trains. With it, you can get on trains run by National Railway Companies, without additional tickets or supplements.

However, keep in mind that many European high-speed and night trains require reservations. This is to ensure that every traveler has a seat or a bed. When boarding one of these trains, you will need to have both your Eurail Pass and your reservation with you.

  • How can I travel between Greece and Italy?

If you choose a Eurail Select Pass valid in both Greece and Italy, the ferry crossing between these countries is included in your pass, operated by Superfast Ferries, Blue Star Ferries and Minoan Lines (you just pay seasonal surcharges, port taxes and fuel surcharges).

  • How can I travel between Germany and Scandinavia?

Take a train or a discounted ferry to travel from mainland Europe to the Scandinavian countries, Finland, Norway and Sweden.
