A travel day of your Eurail Pass lasts 24 hours, from midnight to midnight (from 00:00 to 24:00 hours). On each travel day, you can take as many trains as you wish.
Your Eurail Pass is valid within the overall time period indicated on the Pass. You can begin your first journey after 00.00 hours on the first day printed on your Pass, and you must finish your last trip by midnight (24.00 hours) on the last day of validity.
Exception: 7pm rule
If you board a direct, overnight train that departs after 7pm and arrives after 4 am, then only the following day (the day of arrival of the night train) is counted as a travel day. You would write the day of arrival on the Eurail Pass prior to boarding the overnight train. You effectively will receive 5 hours of travel for free!
Please note: travel cannot begin before 00h01 on the first day of the overall validity period of the Pass. If your first travel day is for example Wednesday 6 August, you cannot use the '7 pm rule' on the 5th yet.
Some Eurail Passes have a continuous validity. Example: the Global Pass 21 days. This means you can travel on 21 consecutive days. The first and last day of validity are stated on your Pass.
Some Eurail Passes have a flexi validity. Example: the Global Pass 15 days within 2 months. This means you are free to choose 15 days on which you want to travel within a longer period of 2 months. These days do not need to be consecutive. With a 'Flexi Pass', you need to fill in each travel date on your Pass before you board the train.
With a Flexi Pass (for example 10 days in 2 months) you can choose the days on which you want to travel within the validity period of the Pass. You must add the chosen date to the travel calendar on your ticket before boarding the first train, bus or ship of that day.
Enter the date, using blue or black ink, in the corresponding box on the travel calendar. If your dates have not been entered, you could be charged with the full ticket price and a fine.
