Train reservations in Sweden

Reservations for domestic Swedish trains can be made at bigger train stations, or at the website of the Swedish Railways (SJ).

Most trains in Sweden do not require a seat reservation, but there are some exceptions. Reservations are compulsory for X2000 and InterCity trains, as well as for beds in night trains. It is not possible to reserve for local or regional trains.

Making an online reservation

  1. Go to the SJ website.
  2. Enter the From and To destination and your desired departure date/time and Continue.
  3. On the next page, state the number of passengers.
In the section Customer cards, choose 'Pass 2 cl' (Eurail 2nd class) or 'Pass 1 cl' (Eurail 1st class) and Continue.
Select 1st or 2nd class Customer card
  4. Select a journey (fees are stated in Swedish kronas) and Continue.
  5. Add preferences, like a seating preference or a laptop connection and Continue.
  6. Now you can pay securely with your creditcard. The most suitable delivery methods for overseas customers are 'Home printed e-ticket' or 'Collect tickets' (from a SJ ticket machine at bigger stations in Sweden).

Night trains

Following the same procedure, you can also make a reservation for a night train in Sweden. You will get an additional choice of between travelling in a Sleeping car with comfortable, ready-made beds and an own WC/shower or in a Couchette with more basic comfort.
