International train reservation fees

Below is an overview of popular international trains in Europe, where a reservation is mandatory, recommended or optional. We list the fee for both 1st and 2nd class travel (where available).

Many French trains have a limited number of seats available to Eurail pass holders. It's important to book these trains as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

Tickets for the TGV route between Milan and Paris can't be bought at Italian train stations.
There's a RailEurope office close to Milan Central station (Milano Centrale).

Pass 1: for holders of passes covering the whole journey, e.g. Global Pass.
Pass 2: for holders of passes partially covering the journey, e.g. One Country Pass.

Seat reservations in France

 

Please note that the number of seats available for Eurail pass holders is limited on the following high-speed trains in France:

  • TGV: all domestic and international routes.

  • Thalys: on all routes between France and the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany.

  • InterCité trains: on some routes that require reservations.

  • ICE: Paris – Frankfurt route only.

 

We recommend that you make reservations as soon as possible, ideally 2 months in advance. To check availability for the train, contact a booking center or visit a European railway station.
