Activating your Eurail pass

Activate your Eurail pass in a European train station

You must activate your Eurail pass before you can use it. This can be done in most train stations across Europe. You're then ready to begin exploring Europe by rail!

Activation must take place within 6 months of the issuing date of your pass.

How to activate your pass

Activate your Eurail pass at the ticket window of most train stations or at a Eurail aid office. You must present your passport in order to activate your pass. The train official will fill in the start and end date during which your pass is valid, and also stamp the validation box. You cannot activate a Eurail pass yourself.

Activation is only possible at train stations in participating Eurail countries. If you arrive by train from a non-Eurail country, you can activate your pass once you enter Eurail territory – just find a member of staff onboard. Activation is not required before traveling with the Eurostar from the UK.

How to activate a Saver Pass

To activate a Saver Pass you need to show the passports of each traveler listed on the pass, even if they're not present. You cannot activate a Saver Pass without all the passports.
