Alfa Pendular high-speed train

The Portuguese Alfa Pendular train connects all of the major cities in Portugal. From the capital city of Lisbon, travel in comfort to Coimbra, Porto and Braga in the north or to Faro in the far south. With speeds up to 220 km/h, Alfa Pendular trains are the fastest way to get around in Portugal. Plus, they have excellent facilities, like free WiFi and on board snacks and beverages.

The Alfa Pendular runs from Braga in the north down to Lisbon, stopping in Porto and Coimbra along the way. From Lisbon onwards, the train goes south to the seaside towns of Albufeira and Faro in the Algarve region. The comfortable Alfa Pendular train offers the option to purchase snacks and drinks. 1st class (Conforto) passengers can access the CP lounge before departure and will get a free drink and newspaper on board.

Reservations

 

You can use your Eurail pass to travel on Alfa Pendular trains. Pass holders are required to make an advance mandatory reservation, which costs 5 euros for both 1st and 2nd class. Reservations can only be made in Portugal. In 1st class (Conforto) you get a “welcome kit”, including a drink, a newspaper and earphones for the train’s audio and video channels. You can order meals with your call button and in some of the seats there are sockets for charging laptops. In 2nd class (Turística) a minibar service operates up and down the train selling drinks and snacks. Free WiFi is available in both classes.
