From December to May, during the winter sport season, private railway company Veolia Transport runs a special night train from Malmö to Åre and Storlien.
The timetable is adapted to the days when visitors arrive at or leave the ski resorts in Åre and Storlien:
- Malmö to Åre and Storlien: Wednesday & Saturday
- Åre and Storlien to Malmö: Thursday & Sunday
Conditions for Eurail pass holders
Eurail passes are valid for travel with the Veolia Transport Night Train and reservations are compulsory. Seats can be reserved for €2, couchettes can be reserved for €15.
Services
The Veolia Transport Night Train offers travel in coach or sleeping car (couchette). You can also choose your own sleeping compartment. A sleeping bag, blanket, pillow with pillow case and towel are included in the sleeping car. If you have your own sleeping compartment, a key to the compartment is included.
In the restaurant car you can buy hot food, breakfast, sandwiches, cakes, candy, cold and hot beverages, beer, wine and spirits.

Lapplandståget
Veolia Transport used to run the Lapplandståget, a night train from Malmö and Göteborg via Stockholm to Narvik in Norway. This service has stopped. The Swedish national railway company SJ still runs a night train on the same route to Lapland.
