Record your journeys with My Trip

Here's everything you need to know about using My Trip in the Rail Planner app with your paper Pass (from connecting your Pass to using it).

Use My Trip in the Rail Planner app to record your journeys

When you travel with an Interrail paper Pass, you need to record your journey details in My Trip. Remember to do this before you board each new train, bus, or ferry.

But first, choose where you would like to record your journeys! You can record your journey details in the Pass Cover or in the Rail Planner app (choose which My Trip option suits you the best). Make sure you tick the applicable box on the Pass Cover to select the method you would like to use. Choose carefully! You cannot change your mind once you start to travel.

One thing to keep in mind if you're using the Rail Planner app to record your journey details...

When using the outbound and inbound journeys in your country of residence, you must record these journeys on the Pass Cover (no exceptions).

Did you buy your Pass in 2020? When you check your Pass Cover, you'll see that the My Trip section doesn't exist; instead, it's called the Travel Diary. Don't worry. You can also record your journeys in the Rail Planner app (it's the same as using the Travel Diary for 2020 Pass Covers). Just follow all the steps below and enjoy the benefits of paperless travel.

Connecting your paper Pass to the Rail Planner app

Get My Trip ready for travel and inspection in 3 easy steps:

Step 1: Create a new trip

Got the Rail Planner app? Start connecting your Pass by creating a new trip under My Trip. Make sure to tick 'Connect a Pass to this trip' before you continue. Connect your Pass to this trip by entering the start date and Pass Cover number of your Interrail Pass.

After clicking next, you can either scan your Pass or fill in the detail such as country of residence, Pass type, and travel class, manually. Check if all the information is correct before clicking 'Connect this Pass'. Once you've created a trip and connected your Pass, you can find it any time in My Trip.

Travelling as a group?

You can add as many Passes to a device as you like. All you have to do is repeat step 1 for each Pass. If you're travelling as a group with multiple Passes on one device, you'll all need to travel together on all journeys.

Travelling with children?

Each Child Pass should be added to the same device as at least one Adult Pass, as Child Passes aren’t valid without an Adult Pass. Children under 4 can travel with you for free without their own Pass.

Step 2: Record your journeys

You can add your journeys to your trip by looking them up in the Planner. Fill in your departure and arrival station to look up all connections. Select the train you want to take and click on 'Add journey' in the top right corner to add it to your trip.

If you can't find a journey in the Rail Planner app, you can add it to your trip manually. Just enter the details, and you're good to go.

More than one Interrail Pass on the device?

Remember to add the journeys in My Trip for all connected Interrail Passes.

Step 3: Ticket inspection

At some point during your trip, your ticket will be checked. This can be upon boarding the train, bus, or ferry, or after departure at any point during the journey.

All you have to do is show the recorded journeys in My Trip in the Rail Planner app, your Interrail Pass(es), and passport or ID card.
