Free train travel with many private railway companies

The main railway company in Switzerland is SBB/CFF/FFS. Your Eurail Pass is valid on all trains of this company. Switzerland also has many private railway companies, and below you'll find an overview of the ones that accept your Eurail Pass for free travel.

AB Appenzeller Bahnen

The Appenzeller Bahnen operates on the following routes in the north of Switzerland:

  • Altstätten – Gais

  • Gossau – Appenzell – Wasserauen

  • St.Gallen – Appenzell

  • St.Gallen – Trogen

  • Rorschach – Heiden

  • Rheineck – Walzenhausen

  • Speicherschwendi – Teufen.

ASM Aare Seeland Mobil AG

Aare Seeland Mobil runs a bus and a railway network in the Bieler Seeland and Oberaargau region.

 

The railway network covers the following routes:

  • Biel – Täuffelen - Ins

  • Solothurn - Oensingen

  • Niederbipp – St. Urban Ziegelei

BDWM Transport AG

The bus operates on the following routes:

  • Bremgarten – Oberwil - Lieli

  • Bremgarten – Oberrohrdorf

  • Meisterschwanden – Wohlen


The railway line runs between:

  • Wohlen – Dietikon

BLS AG

BLS operates panoramic trains on the route Bern – Lötschberg – Simplon. You'll cross the impressive Kander viaduct and you'll have the best view on the beautifull Rhone valley.

  • 1st and 2nd class cars available

  • Buffet and restaurant cars available

  • Reservations are not compulsory, but can be made at any train station in Switzerland

BLT Baselland Transport AG

BLT runs a few regional trains in and around Basel (your Eurail Pass is valid on these trains).

Note: BVB (not BLT) operate the city trams in Basel (your Eurail Pass is NOT valid on Basel's tram network). 

Bernina Express
  • Route: Chur - Tirano (via Samedan - Pontresina)

  • Seat reservations are mandatory only for the special panorama train and bus from Tirano to Lugano (these are 2 separate reservations). Prices are CHF 14.00 on summer and CHF 10.00 in winter. The regional train that operates on this route is also included in your pass.

The Bernina Express is a breathtaking train ride through the snow-capped mountain scenery of Switzerland.

CJ Chemins de Fer du Jura

Chemins de Fer du Jura operates in the mountains surrounding Freiberge and on the route Porrentruy – Bonfol

  • During the summer months a steam train operates on some of the routes

FART Ferrovie Autolinee Regionali Ticinesi

This railway company operates on the scenic route Locarno – Domodossola (Italy) and is also known as Centovalli Railway. On your way from Locarno to Domodossola you'll see waterfalls, breathtaking mountain scenery, and sleepy villages.

FW Frauenfeld-Wil-Bahn AG

This train operates in the northwest of Switzerland on the route Frauenfeld – Wil.

The Glacier Express is a panoramic trip through the Alpine heartland of Switzerland, and a memorable way of traveling from the eastern to the western Swiss Alps.

NstCM Chemin de Fer Nyon-St. Cergue-Morez

This train operates on the beautifull route Nyon – St. Cergue – Morez.

This company runs a train and a bus network in the heart of Switzerland.

RA trains operate on the route:

  • Brig – Sion – Martigny – St.Maurice – St. Gingolph – Monthey – St. Maurice – Martigny – Sembrancher – Orsières / Le Chable

RhB Rhätische Bahn AG

This railway company runs the famous Glacier Express and Bernina Express.


The Bernina Express operates on the route:

  • Chur/Davos/St. Moritz – Bernina pass – Poschiavo – Tirano


If you want to take a panoramic coach, a reservation is compulsory. The regional train that operates on this route is free as it's included in your pass.

The Glacier Express operates on the route:

  • Zermatt – Brig – Disentis – Chur – St.Moritz

The SOB operates on the following routes:

The SSIF operates on the route Locarno – Domodossola.
