Free train travel with many private railway companies

The main railway company in Switzerland is SBB/CFF/FFS. Your Eurail Pass is valid on all trains of this company. Switzerland also has many private railway companies, and below you'll find an overview of the ones that accept your Eurail Pass for free travel.

AB Appenzeller Bahnen

The Appenzeller Bahnen operates on the following routes in the north of Switzerland:

  • Altstätten – Gais
  • Gossau – Appenzell – Wasserauen
  • St.Gallen – Appenzell
  • St.Gallen – Trogen
  • Rorschach – Heiden
  • Rheineck – Walzenhausen
  • Speicherschwendi – Teufen
  • Frauenfeld – Wil


It's possible to make reservations for groups.

ASM Aare Seeland Mobil AG

Aare Seeland Mobil runs a bus and a railway network in the Bieler Seeland and Oberaargau region.

 

Although buses are not included in the pass, the railway network covers the following routes:

  • Biel – Täuffelen – Ins

  • Solothurn – Oensingen - Langenthal

  • Niederbipp – St. Urban Ziegelei

AVA (Aargau Verkehr AG)

The AVA railway network in the Zürich area covers the following routes:

  • S14 Menziken–Aarau–Schöftland
  • S17 Bremgarten–Dietikon

BLS AG

BLS operates (panoramic) trains on the route Bern – Lötschberg – Simplon. You'll cross the impressive Kander viaduct and you'll have the best view on the beautifull Rhone valley.

  • Reservations are not compulsory, but can be made at any train station in Switzerland

BLS operates (panoramic) trains on the route Bern – Lötschberg – Simplon. You'll cross the impressive Kander viaduct and you'll have the best view on the beautifull Rhone valley.

BLT

BLT runs a few regional trains in and around Basel (your Interrail Pass is valid on these trains).

CJ Chemins de Fer du Jura

Chemins de Fer du Jura operates in the mountains surrounding Freiberge and on the route Porrentruy – Bonfol

  • During the summer months a steam train operates on some of the routes

FART Ferrovie Autolinee Regionali Ticinesi

This railway company operates on the scenic route Locarno – Domodossola (Italy) and is also known as Centovalli Railway. On your way from Locarno to Domodossola you'll see waterfalls, breathtaking mountain scenery, and sleepy villages.

LEB Chemins de Fer Lausanne-Echallens-Bercher

This train operates on the route Lausanne – Echallens – Bercher.

MGB

MGB (Matterhorn-Gotthard Bahn) operates the scenic Glacier Express train on the following route:

MOB and MVR

MOB and MVR Transports both operate the scenic Golden Pass train on the following route:

  • (Zurich –) Lucerne – Brünigpass – Interlaken – Zweisimmen – Montreux (– Geneva)

 

MOB also operates the Chocolate Train on the following route:

  • Montreux – Montbovon (From here, a bus takes you further)

This train operates on the beautifull route Nyon – St. Cergue – Morez.

RA RegionAlps

This company runs a train and a bus network in the heart of Switzerland.

Although buses are not included in the pass, the railway network covers the following routes:

  • Brig – Sion – Martigny – St.Maurice – St. Gingolph – Monthey – St. Maurice – Martigny – Sembrancher – Orsières / Le Chable

Regional railway lines around Bern and Solothurn, serving several towns and cities, including Worb, Jegenstorf, Unterzollikofen und Solothurn.

RhB Rhätische Bahn AG

This railway company runs the famous Glacier Express and Bernina Express.


The Bernina Express operates on the route:

  • Chur/Davos/St. Moritz – Bernina pass – Poschiavo – Tirano


If you want to take a panoramic coach, a reservation is compulsory. The regional train that operates on this route is free as it's included in your pass.

The Glacier Express operates on the route:

  • Zermatt – Brig – Disentis – Chur – St.Moritz

SOB Südostbahn

The SOB currently operates more than ten routes within Switzerland, some of which are IR (Inter Regio) trains:

  • Basel-Luzern/Zurich – Locarno
  • Bern – Zurich – Chur
  • Luzern – St. Gallen
 

Local S-Bahn trains include:

  • St. Gallen – Sargans – Uznach – Nesslau - St. Gallen
  • Biberbrugg – Arth-Goldau
  • Rapperswil – Linthal

The SSIF operates on the route Locarno – Domodossola.

  • Your Pass is valid on the following routes:

  • Basel SBB - Basel Bad Bf (station operated by DB)

  • Koblenz Grenze - Waldshut (this is an S-bahn crossing the Rhine)

This regional railway company has an extensive network of mainly S-bahn trains around the cities of St. Gallen, Schaffhausen and Zürich.

TMR Transports de Martigny et sa Regions

This private railway company operates two services with panoramic windows:

  • The Saint-Bernard-Express runs on the route Martigny – Le Châble/Orsières

  • The Mont-Blanc-Express operates on the route Martigny – Chamonix.

TPC trains operate on the following routes in the southwest of Switzerland:

  • Aigle – Leysin

TPF trains operate on the following routes:

Travys operates bus and train lines in the Jura region as well as local public transport networks in Yverdon and Orbe.

TRN Transports régionaux neuchâtelois

TRN operates the public transport network in Neuchâtel.
