Many people still believe that Blue Monday is the most depressing day of the year. Well… not exactly. Blue Monday was in fact invented by a very cunning travel company.
The company hired a doctor who came up with a formula that deemed the third Monday in January ‘Blue Monday’: the most depressing day of the year and – by the way – the perfect day to book your vacation. Clever, but hardly scientific.
WHY TRAVELING MAKES YOU HAPPIER
Talking about science: behavioral scientists have spent a lot of time studying what makes people happy. And many of those studies revolve around traveling, which is said to lighten our moods and make us feel more relaxed.
The University of Massachusetts found that taking time off from work not only helps people de-stress and feel happier, but it also helps productivity. In a survey of 414 travelers, 94% said they had regained their energy after coming back from a good trip.
