Brussels, Belgium

Kickstart your Belgium itinerary in the country's capital and HQ of the European Union (EU). This is a city that has something for everyone. Marvel at the prestigious Grand Place and King’s House (Maison du Roi) or get down with the friendly folks in the so-called brown cafés - local bars that serve every Belgian beer imaginable. Delirium Café has a world record 3,000 beers to choose from.

Brussels’ cultural scene spoils you for choice. Natural sciences, military history, musical instruments, and comic strips are all represented by specialist museums. For a wacky photo opportunity, visit the Atomium, a huge atom-shaped structure. The interior of the building is explorable and offers panoramic views of the city.

Luxembourg City, Luxembourg

The final stop in this Belgium itinerary is actually in Luxembourg! Luxembourg City fascinates on every level – quite literally. Situated across a deep gorge, an elevator connects its exquisite upper town with Grund, the edgier, low-lying area of the city. Venture a further 131 feet below to explore the Bock Casemates, an extensive network of underground tunnels dating from the 17th century.

Check out the Grand-Ducal Palace and modern art museum, or wander around relics of the city’s Old Quarters and fortifications. With numerous bridges across the river and the Chemin de la Corniche, dubbed Europe’s most beautiful balcony, there are plenty of opportunities to take in the incredible scenery.
