Running into some issues with the timetable?
I'm not getting any results, why not?
We're expecting lots of travellers this summer, so many people are currently checking train times in our timetable. It's possible you're not seeing any results because our timetable is handling too many requests. Try again or check back a little later!
Time zone issue?
Simply change your computer’s local time to CET to check our timetable, or book seat reservations, then reset your time zone to your local time when you're done.
Are you getting the 'Prices unavailable' error? Chances are reservations for your preferred train are sold out. Take these extra steps to try and find available seats:
Check the train carrier's website to see if there are still available seats and book your seat reservation directly from the railway carrier or via other platforms. Learn more
If your schedule allows you to be flexible, search the same route at another time or date in our timetable.
Not in a rush? Check if you can travel the same route on trains that don't require a seat reservation. Select the ‘No reservation needed’ filter before clicking ‘search’ in our timetable (you can find this under ‘Options’ in the Rail Planner app). Or check out our reservation-free itineraries for more inspiration.
Can't find any trains with available seats or routes without reservations? It rarely happens, but if it does, why not consider alternative forms of transport, like the bus? Please note these options are not included in your Pass.
Have none of the above options yielded a solution? Consider going to a different destination or exchange your Pass (only possible if it's unused) and travel in the low season.
What's a Seat Reservation?
For some trains, like high-speed and night trains, it's mandatory to buy a seat reservation (this reservation guarantees your seat on the applicable train). Please note that you can only buy reservations when you have a valid Pass.
Don't have your Eurail Pass yet? Not sure whether you need seat reservations or how much they cost? Don't worry; we have all the answers.
How to book a Seat Reservation?
Our tool lets you make reservations for many trains in Europe. Exceptions are the Baltic countries, Bosnia Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Greece, Ireland, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Portugal, Serbia, Spain, Turkey, and the UK (except the Eurostar trains).
Print at home reservations can be booked up to 3 hours before departure.
Paper ticket reservations have to be booked way before the train's departure. We currently have shipping lead times of at least 2 weeks but they can go up to 4 weeks depending on the country (e.g. overseas).
When a train cannot be booked through our self-service, you can find alternative ways to book your reservations here.
When do I need Seat Reservations?
If you're planning to see a lot in a short space of time on your Eurail trip, then you'll most likely need to buy some seat reservations for high-speed routes before you go.
Can I avoid Seat Reservation costs?
It's good to keep in mind that most European trains don't need a reservation at all. Regional trains are a good alternative for fully booked high-speed and night trains.
- Which trains are included in the Pass?
You can use your Pass to travel on the national railways and some private railways in the countries where your Pass is valid. In some cases, these train networks reach airports as well. Check the full list here. The Pass even includes certain buses and ferries to make sure everything is within reach.
Some popular trains like the Eurostar, Thalys, TGV, and AVE are included in the Eurail Pass, but require that you purchase a seat reservation.
- Why can't I find my journey in the timetable?
Our timetable covers most popular routes in Europe, but is not 100% accurate as not all European railways choose to share their timetable data. There are a few things you can do if you can't find your journey:
Planning in advance? Check back closer to the time
If you get no results for your chosen journey, check back in a few weeks. We update the timetable every month with the latest data from the railway companies.
Can’t find your station? Try another spelling
Try searching again with the city or station's local spelling. If you still see no results, you can check missing train times by country below.
Can't find your train? Check direct with the railway company
Not all railway companies share their timetable data with us, so unfortunately results for the countries below might be missing or incomplete. Choose a country to check timetables on the national railway company's website:
For general information on routes and seat reservations in each country, check our information on trains by country.
- How do I make seat reservations?
You can make seat reservations through the Eurail.com website for 95% of all European trains. To do this, you need a Eurail Pass and a Eurail.com account. You can also book many trains through our Rail Planner App.
Reservations for Italy, France, Austria, Switzerland, Germany and the Benelux will be sent to you as e-tickets. You need to print these e-tickets and bring them with you on the train. For other countries, you'll receive your reservations as paper tickets through registered mail.
Please check out other reservation options if you want to make reservations for domestic trains in Portugal, or any trains in Ireland, Bulgaria, Greece, Montenegro, Serbia, or Turkey.
- Can I get a refund for a reservation?
Most reservations are non-refundable. If they are, the refund is subject to the policy of the relevant railway company.
When you purchase a seat reservation through our website, the refund policy of the relevant Railway Company applies. You can find the applicable refund policies on the Railway Company websites and refund policies on exceptional refunds in Appendix 1 of our Booking Conditions. Please be aware that most reservation tickets are non-refundable and no changes can be made after booking.
Requesting a refund
You can request a refund via the Reservations Overview in your personal Eurail account. You will find the option to request a refund at the bottom of the overview box for the reservation you have selcted. Our system will tell you if your train reservation is refundable. After you accept the refund conditions, you can go ahead and cancel the reservation. Make sure to file your request before departure of the train concerned. A cancelled Reservation Ticket can never be reinstated, and becomes invalid.
If you’ve got an electronic reservation ticket, the refund will be automatic once your cancellation is confirmed (you don’t need to send the ticket to our office in the Netherlands).
Want to return a paper reservation ticket? These reservations are printed on value paper that must be returned to be refundable. We’ll send you the return address once your cancellation is confirmed, and then you need to send the ticket back to our office (within one month of the departure date) for us to start processing the refund. You’re responsible for the cost of shipping, and if your paper ticket gets lost in the post - it’s best to use registered shipping.
We will transfer the refundable amount to your original payment method (for paper reservation tickets, you must return the physical ticket(s) first). The refund amount may vary per train type, and booking fees or shipping costs are never refunded.
When a reservation is refundable, Electronic Reservation Tickets will be automatically refunded, but Paper Reservation Tickets will need to be returned to our office in the Netherlands before a refund can be processed. The return address will be provided upon confirmation of the cancellation.
Change of currency
You cannot change the currency once you have a Pass in your cart. Remove the Pass, and then change the currency on the website header.
