When you were young and went to the playground with your friends, did you ever try to get the swings over the top of the bar? If so, kiiking is for you. An extreme form of swinging, kiiking is a distinctive Estonian sport aiming to swing right over the bar. Suitable for families and adrenaline junkies alike, this is a great new sport to try.

Try a smoke sauna, Võru County

 

So you've tried a traditional sauna in Finland, but have you ever tried a smoke sauna? In Võru County in south-eastern Estonia, smoke saunas are an integral part of life. These are saunas without a chimney, meaning visitors benefit from the germ-reducing properties of smoke as well as the usual heat. Don't worry, they're designed so you can still breathe!

Visit the Patkuli Viewing Platform, Tallinn 

 

For the best views across Tallinn's Old Town, head up Toompea Hill to reach this popular viewing platform. It might be crowded, but the view is worth it: a Disney-esque landscape of red turrets and white spires. This platform is completely free to use and is open 24 hours a day, so get creative with when you visit!

Return to the Middle Ages with Kiek in de Kök, Tallinn

 

When you see Tallinn's skyline, your eyes might be drawn to some distinctive red-roofed towers. Visit the Kiek in de Kök museum complex to visit these medieval towers, such as Kiek in de Kök, the Maiden's Tower and Tallitorn Tower. Then, head down to the underground passages to discover more of Estonia's medieval past.

Visit Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, Tallinn 

 

Do you hear those bells? That's the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, located just below Toompea Castle. With its rich red exterior and elaborate architecture, this is the main Russian Orthodox Cathedral in Estonia. Walk all the way around it to truly admire its beauty.

Dress up at Rakvere Castle

 

Who doesn't love a chance to dress up? At Rakvere Castle, it's time to become a knight or maiden of the 16th century. Wander around the complex, visiting the shops, main street, wine cellar and tavern, and get involved with medieval activities such as archery. We hope you're good with a bow!
