Eurail art contest sparks creativity for travelers worldwide

Utrecht, 26 April 2021

Eurail art contest sparks creativity for travelers worldwide

While travel options are currently limited, Eurail and Interrail fans from all over the world shared more than 600 pieces of artwork inspired by their past rail trips through Europe. The contest, held in February and March, was launched by Eurail  to inspire their community for future travel and  keep their travel dreams alive.

Eurail called out to all travelers from their community to share their travel memories and inspiration via artwork. Entries flooded in from all over the world, most of them accompanied by personal travel stories of lasting impressions of their Eurail and Interrail Pass trips. A jury of Eurail employees selected 6 winners from 20 artworks that received the most votes from the traveler community on a dedicated landing page where the artworks were exhibited. Winners were awarded a first class Eurail or Interrail Global Pass, to be used whenever they feel ready to travel again.

The winning artwork and other contributions can be found on the Eurail and Interrail websites.

Nadine Koszler, Head of Marketing at Eurail: “The artwork of this contest shows how a Eurail or Interrail Pass trip leaves lasting impressions. Looking at the response from our traveler community, it’s clear they can’t wait to ride the rails again and follow their curiosities.”

Reactions from the winners:

Lydia (USA): “I’m just so honoured to have been chosen as a winner! I came up with my idea because I wanted to showcase some of the places I have traveled to by train. Trains are my favourite mode of transportation and a much more environmentally friendly way to travel. I’m excited to be able to visit dear friends of mine in Germany, The Netherlands, and England while exploring new areas and cultures of the world like Italy and Eastern Europe. Thank you, Eurail!”

Jessica (Mexico): “I really like to project my love for traveling through art, and this was a perfect opportunity; another reason is that I´ve tried the Eurail passes before and I am sure Eurail is the best way to travel and meet all Europe. According to the themes for inspiration, I wanted to find the most iconic places in each country, as well as the typical clothing to be able to make a kind of cultural collage! We are in very difficult times, and I cannot wait for countries to reopen their entry to travelers. I would love to travel to Spain, Italy, France, Germany and the Netherlands with the Pass I won.”

Caitlin (Ireland): “My two passions are Art and Europe; this competition was a chance for me to experience the things I love the most and to share this with people all over the continent. In the last year, I, like many others, have not had the opportunity to travel. I wanted my art piece to give people hope - that one day we will get to go on Interrail again and that this will give us a feeling of human connection. When it is safe again, I hope to travel to Eastern Europe. I have not been to countries such as Greece, Bulgaria and Slovakia before and I would love to learn about their cultures. I can’t wait to make new friends and see new places!”
