Your order

Heading to Slovakia, but not sure where to start? Our bucket list includes castle-hopping, coffee-drinking, and sailing on underground rivers. You can't get any better than that, can you?

Enjoy a cup of coffee, Bratislava

Just like Vienna, Bratislava is a city characterized by its numerous coffee bars. Head to the city's Main Square to join the locals at a coffee bar, tasting strong Turkish coffee alongside sweet treats and chocolate.

Hike in the Slovak Karst National Park

Slovakia is full of breathtaking hiking trails, but there's something for everyone in the Slovak Karst National Park. With its pink-flowered meadows and waterfalls around the Zadielska gorge, to higher paths and cliffs, both hikers and climbers will enjoy themselves here.

Walk through the past, Vlkolínec

Vlkolínec is a beautiful village in the heart of Slovakia. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the village boasts incredible examples of Central European folk architecture. Visit at the beginning of August for the 'Sunday in Vlkolínec' event to learn more about this traditional community.

Spend time in a spa, Piešťany

Tired after all those train journeys? Take a pit-stop in Piešťany, Slovakia's most famous spa town. With its thermal waters and medicinal mud, it's a great place to relax and refresh, before heading on your way.

Visit Spis Castle

Set upon the hillside in striking ruins, Spis Castle is the largest castle in Slovakia and worth a visit. Wander around the enormous site and learn about the area's medieval history.

Visit the 'Eagle's Nest', Orava

Orava Castle sits among the clouds upon an isolated clifftop, and is a striking sight. Known as the 'Eagle's Nest', this 13th-century castle is filled with history and interesting architecture. Join a night tour for a spooky experience, and try not to scream!

Raft through Dunajec Gorge

Want to get outdoors? Depart from the town of Zakopane on a traditional wooden raft, ready to hit the mountains. On an 18km (11 mile) tour of the Dunajec River, marvel at the natural beauty on every loop and bend. You can even opt for a kayak if you're feeling a bit more adventurous!

Explore Devin Castle

Located just outside Bratislava, this ancient ruined castle is popular with locals and tourists alike. With amazing views across the Danube and Morava rivers, it's a great way to spend the afternoon.

See St. Elizabeth's Church, Bratislava

Bratislava has many beautiful buildings, including Bratislava Castle (the header image), but the Art Noveau St Elizabeth's Church is something else. With its distinctive blue exterior and painted designs, it almost looks like something from Disney.

Sail on the River Styx

Thought it was just a myth? So did we. But it turns out there really is a River Styx in Slovakia, and it's an experience you don't want to miss. Visit the Domica Cave to see incredible rock formations and waterfalls, gliding along the underground River Styx. Let's hope you don't end up in the Underworld...
